you are working remote for the first time and you thought it would be lovely. No worries, I will help you be successful at working remote and help you to avoid Three-B Syndrome.
AVOID THREE-B SYNDROME
BURN-OUT, BOREDOM or BONKERS😅😂😅
I have worked remote in some capacity for almost twenty years, I was even part of a remote work pilot program after September 11. Needless to say, I have had some lessons learned over the years.
If you follow five simple rules you are sure to be successful at working remote AND you will avoid Three B-Syndrome.
FIVE STEPS TO REMOTE SUCCESS
1. Avoid Procrastination
Those simple tasks that we tend to put off, can and will pile up and become many simple tasks and one big headache. It's simple, do not put off until tomorrow, what you can do today.
2. Set Daily Goals
Have a checklist listing task that you plan to complete before logging off.
3. Set Work Hours
Find that balance. A schedule that works best for you, your manager, and your colleagues. I personally keep a desk calendar and I also utilize an online calendar that indicates my availability from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
NOTE: This doesn't mean you can never work over or have flexibility but try to stick to the hours; doing so, will help you to be accountable and over time your Manager will have confidence in the times she can reach you.
4. Dress for Success
Get up, shower, dress, breakfast, coffee, etc and head to your home office or designated workspace. It has been my experience and talking to others that if you keep on your jammies you will sound asleep when you are on business calls.
5. Dedicated Work Space
Whether you have a small space in the kitchen, hallway or a large home office be sure to have a designated workspace. Even if you are a business owner, who work remote, you should also follow this rule otherwise you will no longer have balance. Your work life will also be your personal life and you will not have time for your children, spouse, partner, friends, etc...
